There is some confusion surrounding the Aqara ,xiaomi, mijia and yeelight brand.

For example,You will often see Aqara products described as Xiaomi Aqara,Xiaomi mijia.

aqara, xiaomi , yeelight is a Chinese standlone vendor , just like many other Chinese smart home brands, a part of the ever-expanding Xiaomi ecosystem

If you are going to shop for a Xiaomi gateway, you’ll get confused about two brands: Mijia and Aqara Gateway and sometime referred to as Hub. Both of them are  Chinese smart home brands but with different features and for different markets.

Generally speaking Aqara has wide support of devices, is more targeted towards U.S and European markets and supports Apple’s Home Kit while Mijia is more targeted towards Chinese consumers.

Ideally, I should have got the Aqara gateway, but given I was shopping from Aliexpress, they only had Chinese version.  Consequently I had to set the server location to China while setting up the Mijia devices before they could work.

If you bought the chinese version of the Xiaomi Mijia Gateway at $23 on Aliexpress.

If you are looking for the international version, then you should get the Aqara Gateway from Amazon US ($45 https://www.amazon.com/Aqara-11LM-ZHWG-Pack-White/dp/B07D1KWR78)

and Amazon  UK(54 pounds https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aqara-Gateway-Intelligent-Homekit-Xiaomi/dp/B07QWD18HF/).

xiaomi is mijia’s parent company, created its line of smart home products under the brand name mijia, they were making devices for Xiaomi’s smart home brand called Mi and sometimes also Mijia.

Xiaomi's mijia, has two different implementations, one is ZigBee (xiaomi-agara) working smooth, the other is wifi (xiami-miio), which we have to use to setup the device. 

Devices from the Xiaomi ecosystem will be visible in Xiaomi Home app only when we set the appropriate Region in the application. For products ordered by stores such as AliExpress, Gearbest or Banggood will often be the "China" Region (unless the seller has indicated otherwise in the product description). or another Chinese webshop in Europe or USA. 

If we order the device in a Polish store, there is a chance that the Region we will have to set is "Poland".

Yeelight 

Yeelight is a Chinese vendor of smart lights and is, just like many other Chinese smart home brands, a part of the ever-expanding Xiaomi ecosystem. The year 2013 saw Yeelight launch their first smart LED light with money made from crowdfunding, and they’ve since bolstered their line-up with ceiling lights, desk lights, ambience lighting, LED strips, and even more LED bulbs. The appeal of Yeelight products is one shared with many other Chinese vendors: they are cheap yet good-looking and functional.

Yeelight made some devices under the MIJIA brand for Xiaomi.

Yeelight made devices on YEELIGHT brand products.

So nothing changes. You still can use YEELIGHT skills on YEELIGHT brand products.

I wonder if I set up a smarthome system with Apple Homekit, is there any difference between a global version hub and a Chinese version hub? 

Hi, even though Chinese and International hubs do exactly the same thing, the Chinese models can only be added to your Aqara account when it’s connected to the China server, whereas international hubs can be added to any server, sometimes even including the China server as well. This doesn’t make any difference in HomeKit, as whatever server, or servers you use with what devices you have, they’ll all show up in HomeKit.

This means you can have a Chinese hub on the China server, and a US hub on the US server, and both will show up in HomeKit.

In the Aqara home app, you would have to switch servers to see each hub separately, but you can still just use the one user account, so you don’t need separate accounts for each server, you just need to sign out and sign in every time you switch servers.

First of all, you can only have the Hub in either the Aqara home app or the Mi Home app, not both.

aqara hub m1s supports 2 clouds (aiot aqara or miot mijia) + homekit. new batch of m1s comes with firmware 3.0.4 and mijia cloud by default. you have to switch it to aqara cloud if you want to use it with aqara app.

其次，以绿米网关M1s设备为例，同是网关，米家模式下HA可以获取光感数据，而aqara 模式下Homekit 则不能

我前几天让绿米的人在我家安了两个调光的灯。试用绿米的APP。不得不说，aqara home APP确实比米家APP做的好点，调光的功能也要多很多。系统逻辑有了重大提升（可以用设备的状态来作为联动的条件）。灯光可以直接用小爱同学控制，也算间接接入米家了。

With the recent updates to the Aqara and Mi Home apps, along with the latest firmware update to the Aqara Hub, many users have been successfully able to move their Hub and (most of) their accessories from the Aqara app to the Mi Home app, giving access to more settings, automations and data than is currently possible with the Aqara app. 

Although there doesn’t seem to be any helpful documentation from either Xiaomi or Aqara regarding a lot of the new changes that these updates have brought, there are a few things we can make you aware of that will hopefully help fix a range of problems, or at least help you get your hub working again.

First of all, you can only have the Hub in either the Aqara app or the Mi Home app, not both. What will happen though, is that if you add the Aqara Hub to the Mi Home app, as soon as you then open the Aqara app again, a pop up panel will show which will try to get you to ‘bind’ the Hub to HomeKit, which actually just takes the Hub back out of Mi Home and into the Aqara app again. This also happens with the Mi Home app in much the same way if you’ve got your Hub set up in the Aqara app. Seeing as ultimately the Mi Home app is the superior option in most instances, my advice is to use the Mi Home app, as it makes the alarm functionality a lot easier than the Aqara app. Just make sure that if you ever do open the Aqara app, ignore the ‘bind accessory’ pop up window.

miio token is useless in Aqara home mode. You can ignore it in Aqara Home mode.

Bear in mind that not all devices that can possibly be added to the Mi Home app.

My new Aqara M1S hubs are working fine in Homekit only mode you can add them straight via the Apple Home app or via the Aqara App or mi home app.

I change the m1s to aqara mode,and it update to 3.4.4._0008.0616.
And When I back to mi home mode, it still 4.0.2_0006.= =

Xiaomi Mijia Smart Multi-Mode Gateway has two models - ZNDMWG03LM (China) and ZNDMWG02LM/YTC4044GL (Euro). Both this models can be added to China or to Euro cloud servers.

PS. This is the ONLY Xiaomi/Aqara gateway that has the same internal model for the China and Euro versions - lumi.gateway.mgl03. So the Hass component and the Xiaomi cloud servers see no difference between the models.

Gateway3 wireless is not that stable in my house (with Unifi APs) , periodly showing offline in mijia app and automations showing failed sometime.
